Munsiyari, base camp for major treks into the Himalayas: A small town in Pithoragarh district of Kumaon Himalayas, it lies at the base of great Himalayas. It is about 600km from Delhi and around 300km from Kathgodam train station. Refreshing environment and birding paradise: Munsiyari is set very closely in the Panchchuli range and the each homestay has a unique view towards the peak or the valleys. Witness the golden glow sunset at Panchchuli peaks and walk into the beautiful forests. Panchchuli are a group of 5 snow-capped Himalayan peaks where Pandava’s cooked their last meal before proceeding to the heavenly abode. Home-cooked Kumaoni cuisine: The food suits the extreme climatic conditions of the region and low levels of nutrition. Black soybeans (bhatt) with a very high protein content forms the major part of dals and soups. Special spices from these high-altitudes add a strong and memorable flavour to the food. Day 1: After an overnight train, arrive in Kathgodam and drive to Munsyari.
(Craft expedition) - After breakfast, visit the local weavers who make beautiful products of wool and bamboo.
(The Food Trail) - Visit the local farms and experience organic farming of seasonal fruits and vegetables, cook over firewood and possibly participate in harvesting.
(Women’s collective) - Visit the women’s collective to see how women sustain local economy via self-reliance model. See how they make flower juice, carpets and other products.
After breakfast, leave for farm walk and half day hike into the beautiful Himalayan forests. See how the beautiful Himalayan forests, rivers, animals and farms are required for humans. This region is paradise for colorful Himalayan birds.
After breakfast, leave for natural history walk in mountain villages followed by experience of local architecture and sustainable living. Participate in community get-together in evening with local Kumaoni food, music and dance.
Day 5: After breakfast, depart for Kathgodam to catch the evening train for Delhi.
